Having returned to Real Madrid in 2018 after a fine season with OL, Mariano Diaz has never established himself in the Merengue club's first team and will officially leave this summer when his contract expires.

After confirming the departure of Marco Asensio, who is due to sign for PSG in the next few days, Real Madrid made official this Saturday the departure at the end of the season of their Dominican striker Mariano Diaz (29).

A member of Real Madrid's reserve team, Mariano Diaz scored 21 goals for OL in the 2017-2018 season before returning to Real Madrid in a transfer worth around €22m, taking over the legendary number 7 from Cristiano Ronaldo, who left for Juventus Turin that same summer.

7 goals in 70 matches for Mariano Diaz

But Mariano Diaz never established himself at Real during his five years in the first team (just 7 goals in 73 appearances), and practically refused to be transferred at every mercato, clinging to his contract.

So, at the end of his famous five-year contract signed in 2018, Mariano Diaz is leaving. To replace him numerically, Real Madrid have reportedly already finalized the arrival of Joselu, an experienced striker from Espanyol Barcelona.
