Official: Joselu loaned to Real Madrid

On Monday, Real Madrid announced the signing of Spanish striker Joselu, on loan from Espanyol Barcelona with an option to buy.

Joselu, who last week scored Spain's winner against Italy in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League, is a new Real Madrid player. The centre-forward of La Roja and Espanyol Barcelona was loaned to Real Madrid on Monday, with an option to buy estimated at €1.5m.

Joselu is not the successor to Karim Benzema, but rather to Mariano Diaz, whose contract has not been extended. The 33-year-old Stuttgart native has enjoyed a fine season on his own with the Pericos. He scored 16 La Liga goals for Espanyol, plus 1 in the Copa del Rey, and became a Spanish international last March.

Brother-in-law of Dani Carvajal, Joselu is also already familiar with Real Madrid, having played there at the start of his career before joining Hoffenheim. Joselu is already the 4th recruit of the Madrid mercato after Fran Garcia, Brahim Diaz (back from loan) and Jude Bellingham.
