Mercato Barça: PSG on the lookout for Gündogan

Without making him a priority for the moment, PSG are keeping a close eye on the situation of Ikay Gündogan, whose contract with Manchester City expires on June 30 and who is also being courted by Barcelona and Arsenal.

PSG have already made good progress on their summer mercato, closing three deals, including two for players at the end of their contracts: Milan Skriniar and Marco Asensio. In the last few days, the Parisian club has also accelerated its efforts on Marcus Thuram, whose contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach expires on June 30.

But that's not all: according to L'Equipe, PSG are also interested in another player nearing the end of his contract, German international Ilkay Gündogan. Author of a great season (11 goals and 7 assists), which he hopes to conclude on Saturday with victory in the Champions League final, the Manchester City midfielder and captain is one of the Parisian targets.

Arsenal, Barcelona, Saudi Arabia and Manchester City, who are hoping to persuade him to extend his contract, have all been linked with the 32-year-old German midfielder in recent weeks. To this list must now be added PSG, who however seem to be starting from further afield.

Gündogan gives priority to Barça, but...

According to L'Equipe, Gündogan has not been one of PSG's priorities in recent weeks. However, this could change if his German compatriot Julian Nagelsmann is appointed to the Parisian bench. However, as L'Equipe also points out, Gündogan's priority is to join Barça, with whom he has already reached an agreement according to the Catalan press, or failing that, to extend his contract at City.

It remains to be seen whether Barça will have the means to match their ambitions and the financial capacity to approve the player's contract with La Liga. In this respect, Lionel Messi's non-appearance could be good news for the Catalan club.
