AC Milan and Rafael Leão have agreed on a contract extension until 2028 with a significantly increased salary. The release clause of the Portuguese star has also been revised upwards.

Pending official communication from the parties, Rafael Leão's contract extension at AC Milan is complete. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the new contract of the Portuguese striker was deposited at the headquarters of the Italian League yesterday and runs until 2028. A contract that includes a release clause of 170 million euros, 20 million more than the old one. "There are also options to increase it by a few million more," adds the Italian media.

If AC Milan does not intend to sell Rafael Leão this summer, the pink paper explains that a transfer of the Portuguese firebrand is planned by the Italian club in the medium term, hence the idea of setting a high release clause, but accessible to some very wealthy clubs.

Lille will receive a percentage on the resale of Leão

Rafael Leão will go from a salary of €1.5 million net per year to €7 million plus bonuses. The 23-year-old player would also have negotiated a signing bonus of €2 million. For their part, LOSC, who settled the dispute with Sporting CP by paying nearly €20 million according to La Gazzetta, will also receive a percentage of the capital gain from a future resale of Leão.

According to the Italian media, this percentage was previously 15% and would have been renegotiated upwards by Lille on the sidelines of the discussions between Milan and Leão regarding his extension. This would ensure a nice check to the northern club the day Milan decides to transfer its striker, author of 13 goals and 13 assists this season, all competitions included.
