After three seasons with AC Milan, Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali has joined Newcastle, who paid almost €70m for him.

Sandro Tonali's transfer to Newcastle was completed a few days ago, and was made official on Monday by AC Milan and the Magpies. The 23-year-old Italian international has signed a contract until June 2028 with the English club, who have qualified for the next Champions League.

The transfer fee has not been disclosed by either club, but is estimated at between €70 and €80 million, including bonuses, according to sources. AC Milan have also negotiated 10% on a future resale, according to Fabrizio Romano.

"Tonali is an exceptional talent

"First of all, I'd like to thank Newcastle United, who are offering me a great opportunity for my career. I want to repay their trust on the pitch, by giving my best, as I always have. I'm very excited about the prospect of playing at St. James' Park, and I can't wait to feel the warmth of the fans," confided Sandro Tonali.

Newcastle coach Eddie Howe also reacted to the transfer: "I'm delighted to welcome Sandro to Newcastle United. He's an exceptional talent who has the mentality, physicality and technical ability to fit perfectly into our team."
