Official: Manchester City announces its first mercato recruit

Manchester City have confirmed their first summer signing in Mateo Kovacic, the Croatian midfielder from Chelsea.

<a href=/news/official-barca-make-big-gundogan-bid>Ilkay Gündogan left for Barcelona on Monday, Manchester City made his successor's name official on Tuesday, and as expected it's Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovavic (29), who had just one year left on his contract at Chelsea.

With the Blues since 2018, Kovacic has committed himself to the reigning English and European champions until June 2027. His transfer is valued at €35 million (€29 million €6 million bonus).
