Courted by PSG and Chelsea, both ready to pay his release clause, Sporting CP's Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte is set to sign for the Blues, according to several corroborating sources.

Reportedly close to PSG ten days ago, Manuel Ugarte is set to leave Sporting CP and join Chelsea. According to Portuguese sports daily Record, which has been best informed on the case from the outset, the transfer has been completed and Ugarte will sign for Chelsea for €60m plus €5m in bonuses.

PSG were also prepared to pay Manuel Ugarte's €60 million release clause, and even offered the player a higher salary of €5 million a year. Chelsea initially offered the 22-year-old Uruguayan defensive midfielder €2m a year, before revising their offer to €3.5m bonus.

Ugarte wanted to play in the Premier League

This clearly convinced Ugarte, who had given his priority to Chelsea and the Premier League from the outset, despite the Blues' absence from the European Cup next season. According to Portuguese sports daily A Bola, the deal is now complete and Ugarte will sign for Chelsea.

Other sources such as Fabrizio Romano and Rodrigo Romano confirm the trend, but remain a little more cautious, explaining that there are still a few details to be ironed out. Chelsea would like to finalize everything next week, but the player has already made his choice.
