Mercato: PSG reach goal for Ugarte, but don't double his salary

05/06/23 10:39 by Fabien Borne

Manuel Ugarte is heading for PSG rather than Chelsea, according to a number of corroborating sources, but contrary to what a Portuguese daily claimed this morning, Paris has not doubled its wage offer in order to win the bid.

The Manuel Ugarte story seems to be drawing to a close. Barring any new developments, Sporting CP's Uruguayan midfielder is set to sign a contract with PSG until 2028. A trend confirmed by Ben Jacobs, who was the first to announce on Sunday evening that Chelsea were withdrawing from the deal.

However, according to this source, PSG have not offered more than the €60m release clause, nor have they doubled the Uruguayan midfielder's salary, <a href=/news/ugarte-file-psg-doubles-its-wage-offer-chelsea-withdraws>as the Record sports daily claimed this morning.

PSG would not have increased its wage offer

According to the CBS Sports journalist, PSG's wage offer is much higher than Chelsea's, but has not changed in recent hours and has not reached the €10m/year figure mentioned this morning by the Portuguese media. The salary proposed by PSG is even lower than the €5m/year quoted by Record last week.

In any case, Ben Jacobs confirms, as do several French media outlets and Fabrizio Romano, that the way is now clear for PSG in this matter, which has been the talk of the market for the last ten days.
