Kylian Mbappé broke his silence on Tuesday, the day after he sent a letter to PSG regarding his intention not to extend his contract beyond 2024.

And here we go again. As in 2021 and 2022, Kylian Mbappé's future is making headlines. On Monday, the French world champion sent a letter to PSG informing them of his desire not to use the option in his contract to extend his lease until June 2025.

The letter disappointed and angered PSG, who decided to issue the following ultimatum to their player: either he extends his contract this summer, or he will be sold. PSG has no desire to see Mbappé leave in a year's time, and is therefore opening the door for the first time to a transfer in the summer of 2023.

PSG also told the French media last night that they were surprised by the attitude of Mbappé, with whom positive discussions had taken place in recent months with a view to an extension beyond 2025. Mbappé denied this information on Tuesday, in a statement sent to AFP.

"No possible new extension has been discussed".

Firstly, Mbappé claims that PSG has been aware since July 15, 2022 of his decision not to extend his contract until 2025. The sole purpose of yesterday's letter "was to confirm what had already been made clear verbally beforehand", said the Paris No. 7, who also assures us "that no possible new extension has, moreover, been mentioned" since his last one last May.

"Having already publicly stated in recent weeks that he will be a Parisian next season, Kylian Mbappé has not asked to leave this summer, but has merely confirmed to the club that his extra year has not been activated," continues the player's statement, which "regrets that the receipt of this letter was leaked to the media and that these exchanges were made public with the sole aim of damaging his image and the smooth progress of discussions with the club."

In other words, Mbappé believes he has been transparent with PSG for a long time about the duration of his contract, and doesn't seem to understand PSG's recent communication about him. Mbappé also insists that he didn't leak the information in the letter, whereas PSG were outraged to learn the news after the press... There's no doubt about it, the Mbappé soap opera has been relaunched, and transfer rumours for this summer are likely to be louder than ever.
