Mercato PSG: Al-Khelaïfi "stunned" by Mbappé's attitude

Kylian Mbappé warned PSG in a letter on Monday that he did not want to exercise his additional year's option. This provoked the anger and astonishment of Doha and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.

PSG has it bad. Barely a year after offering Kylian Mbappé the biggest contract in the history of a sportsman, the Bondy hotshot has decided not to extend his contract until 2025, as an option in his contract allowed him to do. Worse still, <a href=/news/mercato-psg-mbappe-the-letter-that-changes-everything>the 2018 world champion sent an official letter to PSG to inform them that he was not exercising this option.

An incomprehensible decision for PSG, according to the French press, since Mbappé was under no obligation to send a letter not to activate this option. According to Le Parisien, Mbappé had until July 31 to activate the option, and if he didn't, it was automatically cancelled. Sending a letter was therefore badly received by PSG, who were also discussing with him a new mega-contract extending beyond 2025.

Al-Khelaïfi also has a grudge against Luis Campos

According to Bruno Salomon, who follows PSG for France-Bleu Paris, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi is "stunned" by Kylian Mbappé's attitude and doesn't understand how the player can do this to him "when PSG has done so much and is counting on him next season". The Parisian president considers the manner employed by his player "clumsy and incomprehensible".

According to Foot Mercato, Al-Khelaïfi is furious not only with Mbappé, but also with his sports advisor Luis Campos, who is close to the Frenchman. The Qatari leader feels betrayed, which explains the change of tone from the Parisian management, unanimously relayed by the French press in recent hours. While a sale this summer was ruled out, PSG have now decided to step up their game and issue an ultimatum to their player: either he extends his contract, or he will be sold.
