Close to signing for OM during the last winter mercato, the Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun is still interested in the club according to the German press.

In search of a new striker during the winter mercato, OM signed Vitinha, a promising 23-year-old Portuguese striker, from Braga for 25 million euros plus 7 million in bonuses.

But just before closing this deal, OM could have signed Iranian international Sardar Azmoun, who was in great difficulty at Bayer Leverkusen. On the website of the Iranian soccer federation, the former Zenit player himself admitted that he was very close to the club.

"Even my jersey number had been chosen at OM"

"The fact is that my transfer to Marseille was almost 100% completed. I can say that everything was cancelled at the last moment. Even my shirt number had been chosen at OM, but in the end I stayed at Leverkusen," Azmoun said on February 21.

On the departure this winter, Azmoun has since found playing time in Leverkusen and scored 4 goals during the second half of the season. He was in the starting line-up last Thursday against AS Roma, in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final, but without finding the net.

Leverkusen wants more than 10 M€ for Azmoun

Despite a contract that runs until 2027 and the last few months encouraging, Azmoun could leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer according to SportBild, which assures this Wednesday that OM is still interested. According to the German media, Leverkusen is demanding more than 10 million euros for its 28-year-old striker.
