A priority for Arsenal in midfield, England international Declan Rice (West Ham) is also being courted by Manchester City, who are ready to make a move.

The battle is on to secure the signature of Declan Rice, West Ham's talented English defensive midfielder. Once courted by Bayern Munich, who have since thrown in the towel due to his price tag, the 24-year-old midfielder is the subject of keen interest from Arsenal and Manchester City, the Premier League's top two teams last season.

Earlier this week, West Ham turned down a second offer from Arsenal estimated at 104 million euros (including bonuses), according to the English press. An offer that would, however, come close to the Hammers' demands.

Rice and Kovacic to replace Gündogan?

However, according to Gianluca Di Marzio and The Athletic, Manchester City have now entered the fray for Declan Rice and are preparing to make an offer to West Ham. No fee has yet been announced, but the reigning European champions seem determined to strengthen their midfield.

With his contract due to expire on June 30, Ilkay Gündogan is close to joining Barcelona and <a href=/news/mercato-manchester-city-completes-eur35m-transfer-deal>Manchester City are set to replace him with Mateo Kovavic. The Skyblues would also like to recruit Declan Rice. Much to the delight of West Ham, who will be able to raise the stakes.
