Having reached an agreement with RB Leipzig a few days ago, Loïs Openda still belongs to Lens, who have no intention of selling him. From Belgium, the Lens centre-forward confirmed his interest in the German club.

Having scored 21 goals in his first season at Lens, Loïs Openda (23) is being courted. In addition to AC Milan, Leipzig are keen to make him the successor to Christopher Nkunku (who is set to sign for Chelsea) and <a href=/news/mercato-lens-openda-agrees-with-leipzig>have already reached an agreement with him according to several corroborating sources. For the time being, however, the German club has failed to reach an agreement with Lens, who have turned down two offers, the latest for €32m according to L'Equipe.

Speaking to RTL Belgique, Loïs Openda spoke about the upcoming summer transfer market, and made no secret of his ambition to aim higher: "For the moment, I'm an RC Lens player. I'm happy and I've had a good season. But you mustn't forget that I'm a player with ambitions. I want to play at the highest possible level. So obviously I have to think about going to clubs that will take me to the highest level. We'll see what happens.

"Leipzig could be a good club to help me take the next step".

And when asked about Leipzig, the Belgian international made no secret of his interest: "Leipzig can be a good club that will help me take a step forward. Every year, the team plays in the Champions League, wins the German Cup or tries to win the German championship. So, obviously, this is a team that could take me to the highest level. But as I said, I'm a Lens player and the clubs have to talk to each other. My agent handles that too. I'm here with the national team to concentrate and help my nation."

According to Foot Mercato, Loïs Openda is desperate to join Leipzig this summer, and is having a very difficult time of it after RC Lens refused to sell him to the German club for €32m, despite buying him for around €10m from Brugge just a year ago. A showdown in sight?
