After selling Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea for €60 million, Leipzig has now invested almost half of this sum in Austrian attacking midfielder Christoph Baumgartner, who joins from Hoffenheim.

It didn't take long for RB Leipzig to strengthen their attacking options following the transfer of Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea. While awaiting the arrival of Fabio Carvalho from Liverpool, the German club made official the signing of Christoph Baumgartner until 2028.

Capable of playing almost anywhere up front, the 23-year-old Austrian international will cost Leipzig €24 million, plus €4 million in bonuses. Last season, he scored 7 goals and provided 7 assists for Hoffenheim.

"Christoph Baumgartner is one of the players we absolutely wanted. He's versatile in attack, can play in the middle, on both wings, as a playmaker or a top striker, and can also be used in the figure-eight position. Christoph is fast, capable of scoring goals and very intelligent in the game. He is skilful with both feet and has exceptional shooting technique," enthused Leipzig sporting director Max Eberl.
