Barcelona have received the green light from La Liga for their sustainability plan for the next two years. This should unblock a number of hot issues and finally kick-start Barça's summer mercato.

Good news for the reigning Spanish champions. According to all the Iberian press, FC Barcelona have finally received the green light from La Liga for their viability (or cash flow) plan for the next two years.

According to sources within the Catalan club relayed by Mundo Deportivo, this green light from La Liga recognizes the savings already made by Barça and will allow them to register players awaiting signings.

Barça will thus finally be able to register Gavi, Ronald Araujo and Iñaki Peña, who had extended their contracts in recent months until 2026, as well as Sergi Roberto and Marcos Alonso, who had recently extended their contracts until 2024.

Green light enough to break the Messi deadlock?

La Liga's OK will also enable Barça to move forward with its sporting project and recruit during the summer mercato. Barça's priority is to repatriate Lionel Messi, but the green light from La Liga may not be enough. Jorge Messi met Joan Laporta yesterday, but there is still a long way to go according to the Catalan press, which has been rather pessimistic in recent hours.

In particular, Barça would need to sell several players in order to have sufficient financial margin to pay Messi's future salary. Will Messi wait long enough for Barça to present him with a formal offer, or will he decide instead to accept the Saudi Arabian golden bridge or the Inter Miami project?

We should know soon enough, as the Argentine is expected to make a decision this week. In any case, the green light from La Liga should enable Barça to finalize the signing of Basque central defender Iñigo Martinez, who officially left Athletic Bilbao on Tuesday, and to make progress on the signing of Ilkay Gündogan, whose contract at Manchester City has expired.
