Arsenal have reached an agreement with Ajax Amsterdam for the transfer of Dutch central defender Jurriën Timber.

The Gunners have completed another major transfer. After making official the signing of <a href=/news/official-arsenal-acquire-kai-havertz-for-eur75m>Kai Havertz for €75 million, including bonuses, and reaching agreement with West Ham on the transfer of Declan Rice for €122 million, again including bonuses, the Gunners have reached agreement in the last few hours with Ajax Amsterdam on the arrival of Jurriën Timber, a 22-year-old central defender who has 15 caps for the Netherlands.

Timber to sign for Arsenal until 2028

The deal was revealed by Dutch daily De Telegraaf, which reported a transfer fee of €42m plus €5m in bonuses, giving a potential €47m. For his part, Timber reached agreement with Arsenal last week on a contract running until June 2028. All that remains for the transfer to be finalized is a medical.

While Ajax Amsterdam are coming off a poor season, Timber has established himself as an indisputable starter for the Lanciers, with 47 matches played in 2022-2023. He also took part in the World Cup in Qatar with the Netherlands. A substitute against Senegal on the first day of the group phase, he went on to play all his country's other matches in their entirety.
